  1. Where are your sponges harvested from? The package says made in USA. I am concerned about the sustainability of these. They still smell like the ocean.

    1. Thank you for your enquiry. The sponges are harvested from the Caribbean and the Pacific. These are then cleaned and processed in the United States.

You can be reassured that our sea sponges are carefully sourced. Our natural sea sponges have been responsibly and sustainably harvested with the greatest respect for the environment and from renewable resources. Sponge bases are left intact which encourages reproduction and stimulates re-growth which often results in healthier sponges.

Divers and suppliers would naturally want to protect their stock and ensure the sustainability of sponges. Sponges have the amazing ability of being able to regenerate, especially when harvested correctly. Florida Sea Grant (FSG) found that cutting sponges instead of hooking them would help ensure their sustainability as it allowed them to regenerate and produce more harvestable sponges. By cutting each grown sponge at its base, a fisherman or diver stimulates the sponge’s natural reproductive process.
